Unfortunately, and I say this because even when I do assistance with the PCs I see every one of them, we don’t care much about our PC and we tend to accumulate files, install more and more programs which in the end most of them used once we don’t use them plus the second, the desktop explodes with accumulated icons and files.
This is the typical situation of a neglected PC, which then over time will become increasingly slow, and unfortunately, this is the normal state of the PC.
Instead, it is important, like all things, to do proper maintenance of your computer so that it always works at its best and is as quick in response as it was on the first day.
So let’s start by seeing a series of operations to be performed periodically.
Free up space on the hard disk
It is true that as hard drives become more and more capacious, the problem of space no longer arises and therefore we tend to accumulate files. Moreover, even in everyday reality it is like this when you have space available.
But are we really sure that we need to keep all these files? I really think not and maybe there are files around which we no longer even know to exist.
So let’s be happy and start removing the superfluous. Once this is done, what we really need is it really necessary to keep it on the PC hard disk? Here too I really think not.
So why not store everything on an external hard drive? With these two simple operations, you will see how freeing up space your PC starts to become more performing.
Scan the antivirus
Having an antivirus installed on your PC is mandatory, and there are many free ones that offer good basic protection.
But having active protection may not be enough. It is also important to have our antivirus scan the pc to detect any viruses or similar things that adversely affect the performance of our pc.
Starting the pc
What are the waiting times when you start your PC? Are you going to do anything else while waiting for the machine to be ready to work?
Then there is something wrong. Turning on the computer and then going to do more waiting for it to be ready doesn’t have to be normal.
Why then do not go to the “System Configuration” and check which services start when the pc is started. Surely there will be unnecessary services that are not always indispensable or better that it is not necessary that they start when we turn on the PC. To give a Skype example. Is it really necessary that I start with the PC start-up?
So let’s leave only the services really necessary for the correct functioning of the PC.
Scheduled disk cleanup
Did you know that our dear Windows has a very useful tool called “Disk Cleanup” that takes care of scanning the disk by signaling the space that can possibly be recovered by eliminating unnecessary files such as old temporary files, or browser history?
Alongside this useful utility built into Windows, I would like to point out a couple of external tools useful for maintaining a clean PC, and they are CCleaner and Glary Utilities.
I conclude that the last operation that would be a good habit to perform is the internal cleaning of the PC from the accumulation of dust.
The accumulation of dust also negatively affects performance, especially that on the fan.
I just have to wish you good maintenance, and if you need an intervention for the maintenance of your pc do not hesitate to contact me, I am at your disposal.
